Phoenix Electro/Hydraulically Steered Axles for Refuse Vehicles

The Axles and Suspensions shown below are available for O.E. Installations or for retrofit on vehicles that are in service.

Type (1) Capacity 8000 Kgs.

The Phoenix SKL Axle, which is electronically controlled and hydraulically steered includes lift facility. It can be mounted forward of a Single Drive Axle or forward of a Double Drive Bogie

Type (2) Capacity 9000 Kgs.

The Phoenix ST Axle, a single wheel Tag Axle, Electro/Hydraulically Steered, available with Central Locking and axle lift.

Type (3)

Phoenix Model SKTT, an Electro/Hydraulically controlled Tag Axle suitable for Twin Wheels. This installation can be O.E or Retrofit. With many Refuse Vehicles Twin Wheels are preferred on the rearmost axle and now we can supply a Twin Wheel Rear Steer Axle improving Load Distribution.

The following is a visual breakdown of the components used to create this very effective rear steer system.

Also note that the new rear steer axle system can be fitted with the SKL axle, allowing fitment to vehicles with low gear boxes and exhaust systems.

Electronic Control Box

This box controls all the electronic signals to the axle.

Cab Switch/Display

This is the manual On/Off switch for the steer axle, and it also displays the condition of the axle and system to the driver.

Note: This switch assembly will fit any aperture.

Oil Reservoir

This holds the oil for the rear steer hydraulic system.

Hydraulic Valve Block

Controls hydraulic supply to the axle.

Steering Ram

This steers the rear axle left and right, comes complete with a built in rear sensor and axle centering device.

Electric Motor/Hydraulic Pump Assembly

Only runs when pressure drops below 30 bar.

Stores hydraulic pressure (100 bar).

C.R.I.P.S

Disposable front sensor, unaffected by the weather. This device fits to the drop arm on the steering column.
